Spokesman Colin Granger said: “The play tells the story of a young cat that doesn’t care for the rough and tumble and mischievous fun of kitten play, but instead dreams of being something else – a chicken, perhaps, or a goat, or a rabbit… for after all, anything is better than being a cat!
“This original production uses a rich mix of story-telling, physical theatre, humour, music and song to tell the tale of the kitten that learns to be happy by being exactly what she is.
“The play is based on Swiss author and illustrator Hans Fischer’s award-winning picture book, Pitschi.
“First published in 1948, Pitschi has delighted generations of children – and cat lovers – all around the world. It is performed by Anglo-Swiss actor Natasha Granger.
“Founded in 1994, Komedia is an independent arts organisation with two flourishing venues in Brighton and Bath. Last year Komedia celebrated 20 years of presenting and producing children’s theatre by premiering Pitschi, the Kitten with Dreams at the Edinburgh Festival.
“Komedia self-funds its children’s work with revenue from the profitable elements of its programme – comedy and music – and has wide experience of both touring theatre and running Edinburgh festival venues, most notably the Aurora Nova Festival of International Physical Theatre at St Stephens from 1999 to 2006.”
Theatre Fideri Fidera is a new theatre company set up by Komedia to tour children’s work.
