Immortal Chi: A Warriors Quest for Harmony,
Congress Theatre,

I have been in love with China since I visited Hong Kong in 2005 so to have the chance to review a brand new show direct from China on their first visit to the UK was an exciting opportunity.

Playing the Congress Theatre, Eastbourne, for two nights over the weekend of July 5 and 6, Immortal Chi, A Warrior’s Quest for Harmony, was conceived and directed by the Cirque du Soleil director Erick Villeneuve and the creative team.

They had run out of programmes in Eastbourne but I met with Zhan Yucheng the Production Supervisor in the interval who told me the story of this stunning show. It is the tale of a Thai Chi Master and his ultimate challenge to regain his secret inner energy – the Immortal Chi.

There was a magnificent display of Chinese martial arts and acrobatics, movement and music and beautiful costumes.

The highlight for me was the performance by the Chinese girl drummers.

Eastbourne was very lucky to be able to see this show as it was an experience never to be forgotten.

This may be their first visit to the UK but hopefully it won’t be the last.
