Burgess Hill Musical Theatre Society has been showing its resilience as it moves towards its next production.
Spokeswoman Melinda Lawrence said: “Not unsurprisingly times have been hard for local amateur theatre with the recession drastically cutting audience numbers. Many societies have had to put plans on hold or have disappeared altogether.
“However, by making tough decisions to cut down on show sizes, reducing the number of shows staged per year, and performing shows out of town Burgess Hill Musical Theatre Society has managed to ride the storm.”
Rehearsals are now in full swing for their latest production, Jekyll & Hyde the Musical. Michelle Bryant, BHMTS chairman said: “Our society has been performing in the local area for 62 years, and it would have been a real loss to the community if we had to call it a day. We rehearse weekly in Burgess Hill and our junior section has been going from strength to strength alongside the adult society who are as enthusiastic as ever. We are really pushing the boat out on Jekyll & Hyde and the show has a real buzz around it.”
Jekyll & Hyde the Musical will be performed at The Hub Theatre, Haywards Heath, from July 17-19. Tickets are available through www.ticketsource.com/bhmts.
