Open air Shakespeare at Lewes

THIS summer Lewes Community Theatre will perform an outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the romantic ruins of Lewes Priory, and auditions are taking place today and Sunday.

Lewes Community Theatre’s previous celebrated productions include Dick Whittington in Lewes!, Alice through the Looking Glass, A Christmas Carol and the original production of the Dream performed in July 2006 at the Lewes New School.

Drama teacher and community theatre director, Meriel Whale is behind the show and is hoping to attract anyone with an interest in acting, dancing, singing and music, but would also love people to get involved backstage, front of house and with designing and making set, props and costumes. Lewes Community Theatre is a fun and friendly organisation and would like particularly to welcome those new to theatre. Being involved in the show will be hard work, but it will also be lots of fun.

Auditions are today (Friday) at the Chapter House, Southover Church (6pm to 7pm) and Sunday, April 29 at Lewes Football Club, Mountfield Road (2pm to 4pm).

The show will be performed on July 5, 6, 7 and 8, with rehearsals on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons. All proceeds from the performances will be donated to local charities (previous charities have included St Peter and St James Hospice and the Pestalozzi International Village Trust).
