Ariel’s patron Nigel Harman recently visited Ariel Drama Academy in Burgess Hill to run a masterclass with a selection of senior students from across Sussex.
Students worked on audition techniques, each reciting a monologue that they had learned.
The day proved to be a very valuable experience and all students went away with practical advice, which will help them when they apply for acting roles.
Nigel, whose roles include Dennis Rickman in EastEnders, Mr Green In Downton Abbey and Lord Farquaad in the West End production of Shrek (for which he received an Olivier Award), said: “The standard of theatrical training these students receive is clearly evident, and it was such a joy to work with them on their monologues.”
Ariel student Tom Clark said: “It was a great session with Nigel.
“He was very encouraging and his feedback was very constructive.
“It was great to work with someone with his experience.”
Nigel also came along to a performance of Ariel’s Edelweiss Pirates at the Ifield Barn, Crawley, which is part of National Theatre Connections, and was astonished by the high standard of the young actors and the way they portrayed this thought-provoking play.
