Sheep to star in King Lear

An unusual version of King Lear is coming to Jevington next week.

King Lear With Sheep, a new play by Missouri Williams, is on at The Haybarn, Jevington Place, on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16 (8pm).

The play will star one man and nine sheep, which belong to Stephen Carr, a farmer from Jevington.

Stephen said: “I have a flock of 2,000 who, after exhaustive auditioning, have been whittled down to just nine stars (a combination of tameness and charisma apparently being the two most important criteria).”

“The show’s premise is that the man has successfully been touring a production of King Lear with the sheep without a hitch but on this particular night things start to go badly wrong...”

The play’s author and lead actor, the producer and the sheep are all busy getting ready for the big event.

The Sussex Ox Pub of Milton Street is providing wine, local beer and local burgers to be served both before the play and afterwards.

Doors open at 7pm.

Tickets for the production cost £12.
