Young actors take a trip to ’50s America

With a cast of 65 youngsters aged between nine and 20 years old, Grease will explode onto the Corn Exchange stage as Brighton Theatre Group Youth (BTGY) bring the song-and-dance spectacular to life until Saturday, June 14.

Keith Shepherd, chairman and producer of BTGY, said: “The iconic 1978 movie starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton John and includes some of the best known and loved songs in film and musical history including You’re The One That I Want, We Go Together, Beauty School Dropout, Summer Nights and Greased Lightnin’.

“Two newcomers to BTGY are cast in the principal roles and, under the direction of Michael Burnie, Jake Hanson (18) as Danny and Madison Horne (17) as Sandy will play out their love story against the backdrop of Rydell High School.

“All our favourite characters are authentically recreated so look out for the T-Birds, the Pink Ladies and Rizzo.

“Joining director Michael Burnie are Ellen Campbell, musical director, and choreographer Jodie Harrop.

“This tried-and-tested partnership resulted in rave reviews for BTGY’s last two productions, Miss Saigon and Les Miserables.”

Keith added: “Our last two sell-out productions, Miss Saigon and Les Miserables, received the highest accolades for their dramatic portrayal of two very different, thought-provoking stories.

“For our first show of 2014, I wanted to inject the fun of dancing back into the company with a show that has a wonderfully-happy ending.”
