The event will return to Hove Lawns where it will continue to offer the popular kid’s Scootathlon and the Children’s Triathlon on 12 September before the main adult triathlon takes place on Sunday 13 September.

This year was the biggest participation to date with more than 1,600 competitors - organisers are hoping to exceed that next year.

Race director John Lunt said, “Brighton is a top destination for sport with huge participation in many events. I’m delighted we can open up entries for 2020 race so soon after the sell-out 2019 event.

“We aim to make the Triathlon accessible to everyone including novices, first timers, veterans of the sport, disabled and LGBTQ. We are fully inclusive and this is why so many people enjoy competing with us at Brighton. We have participants from all over the world which obviously also brings a lot of business to Brighton and Hove.”

“We had 120 children race in the scootathlon and we also had 167 children compete in the children’s triathlon. With more and more women taking up the sport of triathlon there were 30 per cent of women competing this year and a further 30 per cent of the field were first timers.”

MP for Hove and Portslade said, Peter Kyle said, “The Brighton & Hove Triathlon is a real family event and it’s great to have it based on Hove Lawns. To see three-year-olds through to 87 year-olds giving it their best in an all-inclusive event really fits well with the spirit of our city."
