Picnic in the Park Tarring: Volunteers invite Ukrainian families to Worthing picnic to mark Ukraine Independence Day

Refugees from Ukraine have been personally invited to Picnic in the Park Tarring and staff from Worthing Borough Council have been urged to join volunteers there to help them feel welcome.

The annual family summer gathering falls on the day after Ukraine Independence Day and picnics are being held across Europe to mark the occasion.

Hazel Thorpe, councillor for Tarring Ward, said volunteers will be working from 9am to 4pm on Thursday, August 25, to make the picnic a success.

Council staff are able to spend three days volunteering per year and those who have not taken up their allocation are being asked to use it for the picnic event.

Noah's Ark is the theme for this year's Picnic in the Park Tarring and an animal procession will launch proceedings at 11am, with prizes for the best costumes.

There will be live displays, rides and attractions, sports day competitions, face painting, balloon modelling, stalls, tombolas and ice cream in Tarring Park until 3pm.

The event is organised by Friends of Tarring Park with surprise animal guests from Ferring Country Centre and a costume competition at 12. 15pm.
