9. Brighton Beach
Brighton beach is one of the most-famous in the country, popular with residents and tourists alike. Its popularity soared thanks to the patronage of the Prince Regent, later King George IV, whose love for the town – now city – led to it becoming highly fashionable. Its popularity hasn't waned and the beach is often packed at the first sign of summer sun. There are a number of bars and cafés nearby, not to mention the world-famous Palace Pier. 10. Worthing
It might not have much sand but Worthing's beach is a great place to soak up the summer sun. It's a stone's throw – or should that be pebble's? – from shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants, the big wheel on the prom offers spectacular views and the pier has twice been voted Pier of the Year, in 2006 and 2019. Just watch out for the seagulls... Photo: Eddie Mitchell
11. West Wittering Beach
West Wittering beach is a favourite here in Sussex - and it's not hard to see why. With miles of sandy beach, and stunning views of Chichester Harbour, the South Downs and the coast, it's perfect for a lazy afternoon in the sun, or an evening's stroll by the sea. It's popular, though, and parking spaces can be hard to find, so if you're set on a trip to the Witterings, make sure to book ahead online and save yourself some money.
