Young classical guitar virtuoso's Sunday morning Falmer concert

As part of the Brighton Dome’s Coffee Concerts series he performs an intimate programme of works by the great English composers of the 20th century.

The Sunday morning chamber concerts have taken temporary residence at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) at the University of Sussex, while the refurbishment of our Corn Exchange is underway, and Sean will take to the Falmer stage at 11am on January 29.

Born in Edinburgh in 1992 of Scottish and Japanese heritage, Sean studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and currently with the inspirational Paolo Pegoraro in Italy. He is the first guitarist to be admitted to the prestigious BBC New Generation Artists Scheme and the only solo guitarist to have received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship.

Other awards include the Royal Overseas League First Prize and Gold Medal (2011), Ivor Mairants Guitar Award (2009) and D’Addarrio endorsement.

Over the last two years Sean has appeared as soloist with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and BBC Symphony Orchestra performing Rodrigo’s Concerto de Aranjuez and Gentilhombre, the Malcolm Arnold and Villa Lobos Concertos, and recording Takemitsu’s To the Edge of Dream.

Drawn to chamber music and song, Sean has collaborated with the Danish String Quartet recording Boccherini’s Fandango, harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani, and singers Robin Tritschler and Ben Johnson in repertoire ranging from 20th Century English song to music by Schubert, Weber and Seiber. Earlier this year he performed music for voice and guitar from Spain and Latin America with the BBC Singers broadcast live by Radio 3. He was selected for representation by

Young Classical Artists Trust in 2015.

The concert programme is as follows: Dowland Forlorn Hope Fancy/ Fantasia No.2, Arnold Fantasy, Op.107, Walton 5 Bagatelles, Lennox Berkeley Sonatina, Op.52/1 and Britten Nocturnal after Dowland, Op.70.
