Belloc's journey takes to the stage

A LOST classic from a Sussex great will be brought to the stage this summer in a new collaboration featuring the Chichester Players.

Worthing's Ann Feloy, a former reporter on the West Sussex Gazette, has completed a stage adaptation of The Four Men by Hilaire Belloc '“ the tale of a journey from one side of Sussex to the other.

The play, co-directed by Felor and Christine Fleming as part of the Chichester Festivities 2008, will be presented at the New Park Centre, Chichester, from Wednesday, July 2 to Saturday, July 5 at 7.30pm, with a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm.

The book came out in 1911 but was set in 1902. There may have been a stage adaptation of it around 1951, Feloy believes, but certainly nothing since.

Her adaptation came about through her membership of the Hilaire Belloc Society, which works to promote his memory.
