Bexhill Labour Party Women's Section - July 25

AT our recent meeting members added their congratulations to the NHS on its 60th Anniversary.

Our chairman Margaret Attree had clear memories of hearing Aneurin Bevan speaking at a meeting in Exeter during 1945 with the vigour with which he was to put into his campaign '“ against all odds and the BMA '“ to ensure that the National Health Service was to be set up in 1948.

There may be problems at some points but most members agreed without the 'free at the point of delivery to all' still being adhered to many of us would not be able to access the many treatments that sometimes we take for granted.

We will be supporting Friends of St Jude's Women's Refuge tomorrow '“ 2.30 pm at their annual Strawberry Cream Tea at Lolesworth House in the Old Town, alongside the route of the Carnival procession. Teas are 3 and there is also a tombola and cake stall. All are welcome.

We will be holding an antique valuation evening on Friday, September 26 where local member and antique expert Mark Sivyer will be helping us out to dig out our roadshow antique treasures.

For more information about this or other events and campaigning undertaken by the group contact the secretary on tel 220337.
