Bexhill Senior Citizens Club Choir - July 18

ON a lovely sunny day club members abandoned televised Wimbledon tennis in favour of their Club Choir Summer Concert, conducted by Janet Szajer, and were not disappointed in their choice. In spite of the choir being depleted by sickness (four members were unwell, including the pianist) they gave an excellent performance of well-known popular songs, ably accompanied by pianist Carol Richer who had generously stepped in at the last minute.

Soloists included soprano Joan Chambers with 'Sunny Side of the Street', Sheila Woollett reading a very funny e-mail, soprano June English with Hello Dolly and Maria Mockler reading a poem entitled A Better Life.

After the tea interval Chris Dyson recited his own composition, a moving poem entitled 'The River' and, finally, soprano June Urquhart sang 'Too Late Now' from the film Wedding Bells.

The final item on the programme had the feet of the audience tapping with Fings Ain't Wot They Used T'be and the afternoon concluded with well deserved, hearty and appreciative applause.
