Bryan, aged 66, who writes under the pen name Bryan Roy, said: “I currently have a number of books awaiting publication which reflects the fact that I have been writing for some time. I wrote my first short novel Purple as a cathartic exercise coupled with nostalgia for days gone by and a misspent youth. It received some positive reviews but sadly no publishing deals so I self-published. After a monthlong trip to Australia I came home and wrote Peroxide, a take on Lord Byron’s Don Juan - my favourite work so far.

“As for Dreamland the motive and idea behind it was to examine mind-control and the breakdown of the American dream. The characters are cartoon-like and to some degree stereotypical, but that’d just me bending and breaking all the rules. I adore stereotypes and am not concerned about their use in a novel. The discerning reader may recognise certain characters and characteristics and therefore identify with them in some respects. Look out in the text for names and reoccurring mystical numbers. In one sense Dreamland has been and will continue to be a form of play thing, a voyage of discovery for me as I hunt for truth when it comes to such phenomena as UFOs and AREA 51. The story in the main tries to debunk such urban myths. UFOs do not exist and there is no real evidence to suggest they might do. Other misconceptions are revealed, also swiftly debunked, but as we move along the storyline we perhaps begin to see and say ‘Or do they?’

“The story will appeal to a wide-reaching intelligent audience that primarily want to be entertained, whilst also challenged – 16-66 for both male and female readers, as being the appropriate age range. We even have romance in the tale whilst we explore various aspects of human sexuality. Every conspiracy I have ever looked at adds to the inspiration. People love a good conspiracy. It assists in rationalising life and, often as not, allay pent-up fear in the individual. At this time how many of us wished aliens dropped by to help us sort our world out. But that probably will not happen? Or will it?

“Dreamland II is half-written and will go some way to plug the gaps in volume one and lead us where we would want to be. Definitely some or more suggestion concerning extra-terrestrials. Ultimately the bad guys will be caught and punished and the boy will get the girl, no doubt, but which girl? There are a number titles already written and itching to be published including Red Shield which currently runs into four volumes. If you like Dreamland you will love Red Shield, which is far more serious in intent with a strong thread of international politics, and the presence of the secret service operations keeps the narrative down on the ground. I have always been keen on writing and way back in the early 80s I was mailing film scripts to Hollywood producers. Never got a reply but you have to admire me for trying!

“Years ago I was out at some disco or another and was dancing with a girl, a complete stranger who asked me what I did for a living. I lied and said I was a writer – which in some sense was true, as today I can look back and say to myself ‘Of course I am a writer!’”
