Free afternoon of diverse music at big Stade gig on Sunday

From noon to 4pm, musicians and choirs from Hastings and beyond will be performing as part of Our Big Gig, a nationwide community celebration of music that will see 300 events hosted between July 11 and 14.

As well as live performances there will also be workshops and the afternoon will culminate in a mass sing, where audience participation is actively encouraged.

At the Fishermen’s Museum, Jerwood Gallery, Lifeboat Station, and East Hastings Sea Angling Association, performers will be taking to boats and balconies for acoustic sets of between 15 and 30 minutes, from noon to 3pm.

A samba percussion workshop for ages 13 and above will take place in Stade Hall from 1.30pm to 2.45pm.

At 3.15pm musicians, singers and samba percussionists will bring the sounds of Africa to The Stade Open Space.

The audience is invited to join in with the last three songs, which can be learned at a free workshop in Stade Hall from noon to 1pm, led by Juliet Russell of Vocal Explosion, who is the event’s organiser.

She said: “It should be a great afternoon, so bring family and friends, maybe a picnic for the beach, or lounge in the local cafes and hear and participate in some great local music.”

Those taking part include Soundwaves Choir, Nicky Mitchell, Cushty, Rizen, The Harmonious Duo, Now & Then, Enid Brighton, Kim Thomsett, George Stevens, Sounds Good, Rattlebag and The Shanty Singers, R Brooks, Danni Mansfield, Adam Lightspeed, Fiddlesparks, Bexhill Harmony Choir Dende Samba, Kyle of Minogue, Harry Osborne, Las Passionaras, Sacred Heart Primary School Choir, Helenswood String Ensemble, Eclipse Choir, The Class, Nana Tsiboe, and Vocal Explosion choir and band.
