Grease is the word in Bexhill

Following a sell-out run of Oklahoma! and hot on the heels of Children of Eden, Adam Hepkin and Bexhill High close the academic year with the the iconic Rock ’n’ Roll musical Grease.

The musical that has been hailed as the ‘No.1 greatest musical of all time’ will be performed from July 11 and 12 and from July 14 to 19 at The Venue, Bexhill High.

Set in 1959, Grease tells not only the famous story of Danny and Sandy, but also how America was changed in the 1950s by Rock ’n’ Roll, heralding a new age of freedom and the advent of ‘the teenager’.

It is the original High School Musical, featuring all the unforgettable songs from the hit movie, including Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted To You and many more.

This is Grease as audiences know and love it. With the T-Birds, Pink Ladies and more high energy singing and dance routines than you can shake a stick at, Grease has been a West End and Broadway success since the early 1970s.

The show will be directed by international award winner Adam Hepkin and choreographed by Stephanie Hepkin who has worked extensively in the West End and with artists such as S-Club 7, Craig David, Geri Halliwell and on Top of the Pops.

West End star and assistant choreographer of Matilda on Broadway, Leanne Pinder, has been engaged to create the choreography for Cha-Cha DiGregorio.

Auditions, which are open to all young performers aged 11-18, will take place on Friday, April 11 from noon to 6pm at The Venue, Bexhill High.

Adam said: “We are looking to cast 40 outstanding performers for the production.

“Girls should bring character shoes and jazz trainers (or similar) and boys should bring jazz trainers (or similar).

“Auditionees should prepare 12 bars of an unaccompanied pop/rock/musical theatre song in the style of the show and come in clothing that they can dance in.

“As cuts will be made throughout the day, auditionees should ensure that they have a way of getting home.

“Registration is from noon to 12.30pm; latecomers will not be admitted.

“Following the success of our recent productions, we are looking forward to seeing a lot of talented young people.

“We saw more than 100 audition for Jesus Christ Superstar last year, so it would be fantastic to see as many, if not more performers this year.”
