Horseback fun ‘joust’ around the corner in Arundel

MEDIAEVAL mayhem will be galloping into Arundel next week.

The town’s historic castle will be the setting for this year’s international jousting competition, which takes place from Tuesday, (July 24) until Sunday, July 29.

Thrilling displays will be going on inside the 11th-century castle throughout the week to re-live the celebrations of 1471 when King Edward IV reclaimed the throne after the Wars of the Roses at the Battles of Barnet and Tewkesbury.

There will also be a mediaeval encampment filled with period musicians, story tellers and weapon demonstrations.

Castle manager Bryan MacDonald said that next week’s event would be one of the most spectacular yet.

He said: “We are very excited to be welcoming the six-day jousting tournament to Arundel.

“The 11th-century setting of the ancient castle, stately home and gardens will provide a living history lesson about The Wars of the Roses in a dramatic and lively way which many will not have experienced before.”

The castle gates open at 10am with action getting underway from 10.15am to 4pm.
