Manor Barn WI

On behalf of the Marshdown Group of WIs, Manor Barn hosted 'A Celebration of Christmas' at St. Michael's Church when representatives from each of the Institutes involved read a passage or a poem with a Christmas theme and we all joined in the Carols.

Father David King officiated and we were grateful to him for the opportunity to hold this service at his church. Afterwards tea and mince pies were served in the church hall giving all who had attended a chance to have a chat.

Our December meeting began with a cup of coffee which was very welcome on such a cold morning.

Our president kept the business part of the meeting to a minimum and then handed over to Mary, our ACWW representative who, instead of her usual report, regaled us with some of her experiences when living in Malaysia in the 1970s.

After being entertained to tea at the Palace in its sumptuous surroundings she was rather taken aback to learn that she was expected to return the invitation but was relieved, in the event, to realise that her little maid was conversant with what was expected.

After a short interval we welcomed Maggie Stredder who entertained us with her 'Personal Pick of Potty Poetry'. Maggie was one of the Vernon Girls and the Ladybirds and had appeared on TV many times so she had a host of experiences with which she kept us all amused until it was time to wish one another seasonal greetings and enjoy a mince pie.

Our next meeting is at 10am on Thursday, January 10, at St. Peter's Community Centre when the competition will be for a funny Christmas card received.
