Prams run at Bolney despite clouds

The annual Easter Monday Bolney Pram Race took off with flying colours and plenty of entries to inspire applause and laughter from the crowds.

People lined the route around the village despite yesterday starting as a cloudy one with bitterly cold winds adding to the dull outlook.

The sun eventually shone, however, and the resilient supporters, who turned out in relentless rain to watch last year’s race, were they in huge number to witness the annual Easter Monday spectacle.

The race was raising money for SERV, the Service by Emergency Riders Volunteers which takes blood, blood products and other emergency patient materials between hospitals out of hours, and Dreamflight, which takes seriously ill and disabled children to Orlando in Florida for the holiday of a lifetime.

Last year a record £10,000 was raised for the event’s chosen charities.

The race is organised entirely by volunteers and centres around the Eight Bells pub where a barbecue and music are part of the day.
