Review: Audience by Michael Frayn performed by The Victory Players at Balcombe Village Hall

Balcombe village hall hosted the Victory Players in an excellent adaptation of Michael Frayn’s brilliant theatrical satire ‘Audience’, where theatre goers have the unsettling experience of seeing the curtain open to reveal rows of theatre goers chatting and gazing back at the auditorium.

The quick-fire witty dialogue, reflecting typical audience behaviours and suggesting plenty of real life drama had the audience in fits of laughter.

Rob Garfield's performance as 'Keith' - the author narrating the action - was brilliantly entertaining, becoming more and more frustrated as the play went on. The laughs came thick and fast.

This was a hugely entertaining and challenging choice to take a typical am-dram crowd out of its comfort zone - and the laughter and applause told its own story! It's so refreshing to see a play that makes an audience think as well as laugh.

The Victory Players are putting on a big family show at the end of November - see their facebook page for more details if you'd like to get involved!
