Rock ‘n’ roll stars

WEST End performers pay tribute to rock ‘n’ roll icons in Rock ‘n’ Roll Paradise at the Assembly Hall, Worthing, on Friday, January 21 at 7.30pm.

Wednesday, 19th January 2011, 9:36 am

The show is opened by John Simon Rawlings as The Big Bopper. John played the role with the original West End cast of Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story. He acts as the evening’s compère, linking each section.

John is joined by fellow Buddy West End cast member Gus MacGregor reprising the role of Buddy for which he received an Olivier Award nomination. Alongside them on stage, Darren Green stars as Jerry Lee Lewis, opening with Great Balls of Fire, followed by Roy Orbison artist Johnny Curtiss and Peter Jackson as Eddie Cochran.

The second half of the show is filled with more bright, optimistic songs of the rock ‘n’ roll era as Richard Atkins stages a concert within a concert to showcase the late years of Elvis’ tours, complete with his trademark jumpsuits. The full cast then return to the stage for a medley which build to a grand finale.

The show features the most recognisable songs of the time including Jerry Lee Lewis’ Wild One, Roy Orbison’s Pretty Woman and Blue Angel, Eddie Cochran’s Three Steps To Heaven.

Producer Lady Croxford says: “Each artiste gets to sing a few songs each, as well as some together but the variety of songs should ring a few bells with everyone! The Elvis set includes In the Ghetto, Burning Love and Suspicious Minds; the Buddy Holly section features That’ll Be The Day and Peggy Sue while they sing The Big Bopper’s La Bamba together.”
