Sing West Side Story and be a Jet or a Shark for an afternoon

People who love singing can join the Jets and the Sharks of Crawley Concordia Singers for a West Side Story workshop on Saturday, September 12.

You’ll learn extracts from some of the best loved numbers from the blockbuster musical and take part in an informal performance led by Crawley Concordia Singers’ musical director Ian Assersohn.

The workshop takes place at St Alban’s Church, Gossops Drive, Gossops Green, Crawley, and everyone is welcome.

Registration is at 1.30pm for a 2pm start.

The cost is just £15, including scores and refreshments, with under 18s at £5.

Family and friends are invited to the free performance at 4.40pm.

There will be a closing collection in aid of St. Catherine’s Hospice.

As well as some of the best loved numbers from West Side Story, the workshop also features extracts from Porgy and Bess.

Choir publicity officer Donna Oxley said: “West Side story has some fantastic musical numbers full of pace, rhythm and emotion. They’re great songs to sing and leave you bursting with energy. We’d love lots people to join us for this trip to New York City in the 1950s.

Crawley Concordia Singers have just started rehearsals for their autumn concert and new members would be made very welcome.

Rehearsals take place every Thursday evening at 7.45pm at Crawley URC, Worth Park Avenue, Pound Hill.

The autumn concert on Saturday, November 14, will feature numbers from West Side Story and Porgy and Bess, together with Birthday Madrigals, John Rutter’s musical tribute to George Shearing on his 75th birthday.
