Brighton Festival 2022: Guide to what's on for the opening weekend, where to go and how to get tickets
The Brighton Festival kicks off this weekend, May 7 and 8, with an eclectic programme of world and UK premieres, pop-up community events and live performances across the city.

This year's festival is set to include 150 events, exhibitions and installations from May 7-29. Of those, 36 events are free, 124 events or installations will take place indoors across multiple venues and 26 will take place outdoors across multiple sites or locations.
There will be 101 performances with tickets costing £10 or less and 10 events or digital projects will take place online.

9. Festival of Ideas: Social Strike Game – Sunday, May 8:
Social Strike Game is a tabletop group strategy game that’s fun for all the comrades. It’s an opportunity to use your imagination to figure out ways that an array of different groups and resources in a city can co-ordinate to develop social struggle in a revolutionary direction, build community, deal with crises, respond to significant events, and smash capitalism. 10. Pavel Haas Quartet: Sunday, May 8
The long-established pairing of the Pavel Haas Quartet (Czech Republic) and Moscow born-Israeli pianist Boris Giltburg has resulted in an exquisite musical partnership. Here, the quartet, who celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2022, and Giltburg perform two piano quintets by masters of late-Romantic music. Venue: Glyndebourne Photo: Brighton Festival
11. Hofesh Shechter: Double Murder – Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8
A thrilling new double bill by internationally celebrated choreographer, Hofesh Shechter, who presents two distinctly contrasting pieces for our times. Performed by his inimitable dancers and accompanied by the epic sounds of a Shechter-composed score, Double Murder explores painful truths and delves into our deepest emotions. 12. A Weekend Without Walls @ Our Place: Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8
Saturday and Sunday’s A Weekend Without Walls will bring communities together to enjoy free family pop-up performances from some of the UK’s most innovative outdoor companies – from hip-hop dance theatre to contemplative audio tours. Without Walls also forms part of Our Place - a free and inclusive celebration of community creativity which sees the Festival works in partnership with communities across Hangleton and Knoll, East Brighton, Mouslecoomb and Bevendean to select, programme and produce events.
