L J Dance Company was set up just over two years ago by principal Leia Judd. Based in a purpose-built dance studio at St Wilfrid’s School, students from two years to adults enjoy lessons in a variety of styles including ballet, tap, contemporary, commercial, modern and jazz.
The company’s A Night at the Movies was staged at East Grinstead’s Chequer Mead Theatre, with more than 70 dancers showcasing numbers choreographed by their talented teachers.
Leia said: “Since day one of opening the school the goal was to put on a full-scale show, and the dancers were desperate for it to happen.
“I knew it would be a huge undertaking alongside running a new business. It was certainly a very busy few months, choreographing over 25 new dances and sorting costumes and logistics, but all the hard work paid off, I couldn’t have hoped for a better debut.
“I’m very lucky to have these dancers choose L J Dance Company and it was wonderful to see everyone supporting each other backstage. Teachers, dancers and parents came together to make sure it was a success, I couldn’t be prouder.”
Now the curtain has fallen on the show, students are back to regular classes where they will be working towards examinations, competitions, learning new skills and just having fun.
