Danny’s Comedy Club celebrates first birthday this month

This month sees the first anniversary of one of the region’s most successful new ventures on the comedy scene.

Danny’s Comedy Club is celebrating a year of cutting edge stand-up at its venue, the Birch Hotel in Haywards Heath.

When Club owner and producer Daniel Kington created his Comedy Club in 2013 it was with a determination to provide a platform for up and coming local talent while bringing good quality comedians into Haywards Heath.

Danny said: “We have worked very hard to bring quality entertainment to our audiences and have been well rewarded by the risks we have taken in giving local talent an equal platform with the more established, professional acts.”

Marking the Club’s anniversary will be local singing star Tania Rodd. Well known for her outstanding work for a national charity, Danny said: “Tania uses her prodigious singing talent to raise money relentlessly for the British Heart Foundation and we are indeed privileged that she has agreed to open the anniversary show for us with her fantastic singing voice.”

The April comedy show opens at the Birch Hotel on Friday, April 25, with headliner Lenny Peters.

Lenny has been a professional comedy actor for over fifteen years, appearing in a number of TV sitcoms including BBC’s Life As We Know It with Richard Wilson and Fifteen Stories High with Shaun Lock.

Originally from Wales, London-based Rob Thomas is proving his worth as an intelligent and very funny comedian. He beat the Comedy Store’s gong on his first appearance and has won the Comedy Café’s New Act Night twice.

Making a welcome return to Danny’s Comedy Club is American Rosie Martin. She opened the very first show a year ago and describes her brand of comedy as: “Jewish, self-deprecating, filthy, dry and…Jewish!”

Warm and engaging, Chris Tavner shares his point of view of the world with the audience. Covering in his sets everything from current affairs to the family, his observational style ranges from dry wit to the completely absurd.

Winter Foenander has a surreal, energetic style with stories on his Dutch heritage and life growing up in Ireland.

Described as a Northern puns/one liner merchant living in Croydon, Chris Ashton has completed over three hundred gigs in less than two years and performs regularly throughout the south-east comedy scene.

Rapidly becoming famous for a highly surreal act that features stuffing massive amounts of Corn Flakes into her mouth, Candy Gigi is the original “one to watch.” Her odd, surreal act with either have you screaming in the aisles or glued to your seat, open-mouthed, according to recent reviews.

Doors open at 7.30pm with curtain up at 8.30pm. The Club features a reasonably priced bar, good food and ample, free parking onsite. Admission is £7 (£5 concessions) on the door with tickets also available in advance at the Hotel reception.
