Family trials and tribulations

Amande Concerts brings the State Ballet Academy of Belarus to the Martlets Hall in Burgess Hill on Friday, November 15, to perform The Nutcracker.

Spokeswoman Sylviane Martell said: “After last year’s success, The State Ballet Academy of Belarus is back with a new and vibrant classical ballet, a family-orientated production with some added glitz from the beautiful new costumes.

“Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet has for generations enchanted audiences with its spectacular performance of music and dance. It is based on the story The Nutcracker and the King of Mice by E T A Hoffman, which follows the adventures of a young girl, Marie.

“Marie, who is given a Nutcracker doll for Christmas, enters a dreamlike land of magic where she soon discovers her Nutcracker prince and dances with beautiful snowflakes. Both children and adults cannot help but be captivated by Marie’s miraculous adventures.

“This production will be of the most delicate, intimate and powerful kind. This company is known for its attention to detail and, more particularly, for its dramatization in dance of the beauty that this ballet is known for. The academy was established in 1928, and through its experience and professional curriculum it teaches enthusiastic young dancers, many of whom are graduates of the St Petersburg School and soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre.”

The ballet is brought to life by 45 young artists and starts at 7.30pm. Call 01444 242888.
