It’s a wrap as 400 guests enjoy Lear from Globe actors

With Parham House as the dramatic backdrop for the evening production, guests were well wrapped up to brave the cool weather and enjoyed the theatre as dusk fell over the setting.

Lady Emma Barnard, Chatelaine of Parham House & Gardens, said it was “another great production by the Globe was enjoyed by all”.

Directed by Bill Buckhurst, the title role was played by Joseph Marcell, best known as Geoffrey in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and last at the Globe in the 2011 production of Much Ado About Nothing.

Joining him as ‘Gloucester’ was the New Zealand actor Rawiri Paratene, star of the film Whale Rider.

Director Bill Buckhurst is well-known at Shakespeare’s Globe where he has previously directed Hamlet with Dominic Dromgoole and played Anthpholus in The Comedy of Errors.

Using an Elizabethan style booth stage – inspired by paintings and etchings from Shakespeare’s time, when touring was prevalent – eight actors visited Parham on May 28 and 29.

The tour is continuing across other beautiful and inspiring settings in the UK, Europe and Asia and concludes in early August.
