Will D’Artagnan and friends save the day in this Barns Green panto?

It’s very much a home-grown show with the Barns Green Players’ pantomime this year, with the group’s own Nigel Currie writing the script.

Called (not quite) The Three Musketeers, it receives six performances in January at the Barns Green Village Hall (January 15 at 7.30pm: January 16 at 2pm and 7.30pm; January 22 at 7.30pm; and January 23 at 2pm and 7.30pm).

Nigel explained: “Set in Paris, this year’s pantomime has everything, a dashing hero, a princess, a dame, a baron and his henchmen and three musketeers who seem to prefer food to fighting!

“The kingdom of Malodeurs is under threat from the baron who has also been capturing the children. The queen turns to her old and trusted friend D’Artagnan for help. He arrives and with a little help from a magic pigeon called Basil concocts a plan to save the day. Will the plan work? Will the children be rescued? Will the queen keep her kingdom? Will D’Artagnan get the princess? And who will win Masterchef?

“Yes, it’s panto time again and cast members from the Barns Green Players have been rehearsing in preparation for another great show.

“Writing the script was one of the few things that we haven’t done for our pantomime productions so this year we have done it ourselves. It is traditional but at the same time modern and contemporary and specifically designed to suit the talents of our actors.”

Neale Francis is directing the production and is extremely excited about this year’s production: “We have been planning this production for several months now, and I am extremely pleased with the great support and input we have already had for the show from our enthusiastic members. We had more than 40 people at the auditions in September, which meant that many people missed out this year, which is a shame, but it did mean we had a very large pool of talented actors, dancers and singers to choose from.

“I am thrilled with the script and we have some great songs lined up. We also have some new tricks and outstanding special effects, especially the singing meerkats, to make this year’s show the best ever.”

Nigel added: “The shows are aimed at all ages although the afternoon performances are particularly suitable for the very youngest children. There are singalongs and sweets for the kids and opportunities for the audience to join in with the fun.

“For evening performances there is a licensed bar serving a variety of alcoholic and soft drinks as well as sweets. The afternoon performances begin at 2pm and evening performances at 7.30pm.

“If you are regulars at the Barns Green Players Panto you will know just what a terrific show they put on and if you haven’t been before you are in for a real treat. Tickets cost just £11 for adults and £8 for children. There is a special price of just £7 for all tickets on January 15. We look forward to welcoming you for some great fun and entertainment.”
