VIDEO: Best year for Steyning school’s A-level results

Steyning Grammar Sixth Form College was the scene of jovial teenagers as they shared their impressive results - the best the school has seen in years with a 98 per cent pass rate.

Pupil Alexander Powel, 18, said: “I’m relieved and really happy. I got better than what I was hoping for.”

After receiving three A*s and one A, David Neale said he was ‘speechless’.

“I don’t know what to say, hard work pays off.”

Phoebe Holland said she was ‘in shock’ after receiving her results. “I got a lot better than expected,” said the 18-year-old. “All that hard work really does pay off.”

Head Teacher, Chris Taylor, who has stepped down this summer said these are ‘the best set of results’ he has seen in 33 years of teaching.

“I’m really pleased and as you can see from the students, they’re delighted,” he said.

There was another buzzing atmosphere at The Weald Community School and Sixth Form in Billingshurst, as students jumped for joy after getting into their choices of universities.

Beth Holmes, 18, will be attending Royal Holloway.

“I was very nervous, but now I’m so relieved.”

Another pupil, Dan Pettitt, 18, said it’s been a ‘long journey’ but he is glad to be on the other side of it.

“I’ve finally got my results and it’s such a relief,” he said.

Head of Sixth Form Tom Backshall said he was ‘elated’ with the students high performance.

“They have worked so hard and it’s wonderful to see. Our A-level results have been particularly high this year, and I’m sure most of the students will get into their universities.”
