VIDEO: Former students open Rudgwick Primary’s new Early Years area

Rudgwick Primary School’s official opening of its Early Years outdoor play area took place recently in front of students, teachers, parents and invited guests.

Complete with exciting new climbing equipment and play safety matting, head teacher Miss Amie Bowers welcomed the new area. She said: “We are very pleased with the outcome of the Early Years outdoor play area and the impact that it is having on the children’s experience of school.”

With a cake and ribbon cutting display, the area was officially opened by former students, head boy of Glebelands School, Cranleigh, Itsuki Kurashina and head girl of the Weald School, Billingshurst, Priya Sodha.

Miss Bowers said: “Without the generous contributions from the Rudgwick Social Club, Billingshurst and District Lions Club and Rudgwick Parish Council, this would not have been possible.

“We very much value the development of the whole child at Rudgwick Primary and wanted to ensure that the outdoor play area supported both physical development and social aspects of learning.”

Identified by Ofsted in 2010 as an area requiring improvement, the 2013 Ofsted reported ‘substantial improvements in the Early Years Foundation Stage learning environment’.

In the same report, Rudgwick Primary was reported as ‘A Good School’ by Ofsted

Also in attendance at the opening was Derek Reynolds of Billingshurst and District Lions Club.

He said: “I think it’s fantastic for Rudgwick Primary and it has been a great opportunity to have been involved in a local school project.”

And when Max from reception class was asked what he thought of the new play area he simply replied: “I like the climbing bits the best, it makes school fun!.”
