Employees from More Than Insurance, a part of Royal Sun Alliance based in Chart Way, visited the UK headquarters of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in Southwater’s business park for a special cheque presentation.

Accepting the cheque was Gavin Grant, chief executive officer of RSPCA, who said that the partnership between two of the major employers in the area was a ‘match made in heaven.’

He added: “RSA is joining a relatively small and illustrious list that we call part of the RSPCA family.”

To operate the 169 branches and the rest of its activities it needs to generate £110m annually, since it does not receive any government funding.

Mr Grant added that it was important that responsible owners insure their animals, and the chance to work with More Than was a great opportunity to educate owners through a brochure they have produced.

RSA is the largest insurer of cats and dogs in the UK, and More Than will make a 50p donation to the RSPCA for every pet insurance policy it sells from July.

Janet Connor, managing director of More Than, said: “It’s a market that is not heavily insured. About 30 per cent of cats and dogs are insured. We are constantly looking at an insurance approach that’s more affordable.”

She said they prided themselves in the experience of their claims team and regularly have satisfaction ratings in the high 90s.

“We recruit people who are hugely passionate about animals,” she added.
They also do their best to promote responsible pet ownership and make people appreciate the opportunities and pitfalls of owning an animal.

“This link is highly influential. It’s a huge opportunity for two brands to come together and do some real good,” she added.

“This is the beginning of a journey and a partnership.”

More Than’s employees will also be fundraising throughout the five-year partnership.
