VIDEO: Pop-up chocolate shop a sweet treat for Horsham

Located between the Body Shop and Clinton Cards, Montezuma’s opened at 9.30am on Monday, October 14 and is set to stay until January.

“It’s amazing, everyone is so friendly,” explained area manager Carrie Burton. “In our Chichester store and Brighton store we always get told how we should be in Horsham and actually we’d been thinking about it for a while.”

Montezuma’s was founded 13 years ago by ex London-based lawyers Helen and Simon Pattinson after they were inspired by a trip to a cocoa plantation in South America.

After starting with one machine and a shop in Brighton, they now have five stores, including in London and Winchester, and their products are stocked by companies including Waitrose.

“With our company we have peaks and lulls so our peak seasons are Christmas and Easter,” continued Carrie. “If it proves to be quite popular we might, if we’re lucky, stay for Easter.”

Among their organic and ethical range, which is made at a factory in Birdham, Chichester, includes dark chocolate from four to 100 per cent to the more weird and wonderful chilli and lime to orange and geranium - which Carries reveals tastes like turkish delight.

“The chilli is really popular and something everyone is into at the moment so we have lots of chilli products,” she added.

“We do British pudding chocolates including Eton mess, apple crumble. We did them for the Jubilee and Royal wedding but they were so popular that we kept them, expanded it, brought out other products using those flavours so we’ve pretty much tried everything when it comes to flavours.”

The Christmas range comprises advent calendars, chocolate baubles, bags of truffles, hampers and popular peanut butter flavoured snowballs.

“Our hot chocolate is totally different from other hot chocolates because it’s pure bars just ground down which you add to hot milk,” said Carrie. “It’s the most luxurious hot chocolate you’ll ever have.”

Carrie said Montezuma’s had been pleased with the way Horsham has welcomed it:“We’ve been surprised that quite a lot of people know our brand already.

“We’re really excited to be here and we hope it will be successful. Everyone should come and see us and enjoy it.”
