From Eurovision to EastEnders – The 80’s Icons Take Brighton by Storm!

The Sussex business community came together last Thursday, 20th November, at The DoubleTree by Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel for an unforgettable 80’s-themed Gala Dinner, featuring iconic performances and celebrity appearances that had guests dancing the night away.

This year’s event was headlined by legendary 80’s stars Toyah Wilcox and Cheryl Baker, who brought fantastic energy and insight into their illustrious careers. Toyah shared highlights from her groundbreaking appearances on Top of the Pops and reflected on her experiences on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, while Cheryl recounted her memorable win at Eurovision in 1981 with Bucks Fizz, her appearances on Dancing on Ice, and a special feature on EastEnders, with hopes to return to the iconic square in the future. Both stars offered behind-the-scenes stories, from filming Quadrophenia on the streets of Brighton to chart-topping hits and television fame.

The evening successfully raised £30,000 for the newly merged Southern Hospice Group, which brings together the incredible work of Martlets, St. Barnabas, and Chestnut Tree House. Together, they provide vital palliative and end-of-life care, supporting patients and their families across Sussex. From specialist in-patient care and community nursing to bereavement support and day services, the group ensures that those facing terminal illness and their loved ones receive compassionate care when they need it most.
