The company's director Nick Sutherland said at the time this was due to the 'continual decline of the foot flow on the high street'.

But now there are fresh opportunities for the site as plans were approved for the change of use from a restaurant to two apartments on the first floor and for the second and third floor to be turned into one apartment.

Not everyone was happy with the plans.

A spokesman for The Chichester Society said: "The executive committee consider that the proposed new street door accessing the flats in unacceptable in its inappropriate modern appearance and that the re-use of the former restaurant projecting for signing the apartments.

"Also clarity is required on what is proposed for the rear entrance door as the proposed elevation does not match the additional image provided.
