The store will neighbour Lidl in Drove Road and will include a garden centre and Iceland outlet.

It is expected to open its doors this summer.

The new store in Newhaven is the retailer’s latest outlet in Sussex and follows openings in Eastbourne, Worthing, Chichester and Crawley.

Councillor James MacCleary, Leader of Lewes District Council and local councillor for Newhaven South, met up with the senior team at the site this week to discuss the progress being made.

He said: “As the country slowly reopens following the Covid-19 crisis, there is so much welcome good news in Newhaven, not least the 85 new jobs being created at The Range.

“Construction is moving very quickly and I can’t wait to visit when the store officially opens in the summer.

“I was very pleased to hear that the store will also include a selection of Iceland products.

“In addition to The Range establishing a presence in Newhaven, work is underway on Railway Quay and with multi-million pound Future High Streets funding now being secured to transform the town centre, the local economy is getting the investment I have for so long called for.”

A spokesperson for The Range said: “The new store in Newhaven will provide great value products and everyday essentials from Petcare and DIY to health products and cleaning supplies.

“We’re really looking forward to be introducing our vast product selection at fantastic prices to yet another local community.”
