Discover the joy of oil painting

An artist whose previous workshop sold out in just two days is bringing her popular Art Confidence workshop to New Park Community Centre in Chichester this summer, offering complete beginners the chance to discover the joy of oil painting in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Artist and educator Linda Hardwick will lead the one-day workshop on Saturday, July 18, guiding participants step-by-step from a blank canvas to a finished painting they can proudly take home at the end of the day.

Originally from Ireland and now based in West Sussex, Linda studied fine art before teaching art in secondary schools and sixth forms for 13 years. Since leaving education in 2020, she has built a successful career as a freelance artist educator, teaching students from around the world both online and in person, as well as delivering workshops for businesses and organisations.

Linda said: "I've met so many adults who have always wanted to paint but simply haven't felt confident enough to start. My workshops are designed to make oil painting accessible and enjoyable, whatever your experience. Everything is provided and I guide participants through the process step-by-step, so all they need to bring is enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go."

As well as teaching painting techniques, Linda believes creativity can play an important role in building confidence, encouraging mindfulness and supporting wellbeing.

Allison McDonald-Hughes, centre manager at New Park Community Centre, said: "At New Park, we're committed to creating opportunities that bring people together, support wellbeing and help individuals discover new interests and talents. We are delighted to welcome Linda and to provide an affordable and accessible space where people can learn new skills, connect with others and enjoy the benefits that creative activities can bring. Workshops such as this reflect our wider mission of supporting confidence, community connection and wellbeing.

“The workshop runs from 12pm to 5.30pm and includes all materials, refreshments and individual guidance within a small-group setting.”
