Film & screen acting courses coming to Chichester

Chichester FilmMakers CIC have partnered with screen acting coach/writer/director Darren Black to bring a number of film & screen acting courses to Chichester.

Jonathan Brooker, co-founder/executive producer/director with Chichester FilmMakers CIC, said: “We shall be hosting a free launch event at The Nest, Chichester Festival Theatre, on Wednesday, April 29 from 6pm.

“Actors of all levels are welcome to join us for this two-hour event, during which we shall be walking attendees through the course content and using this opportunity to determine exactly who is interested in subscribing to the courses, and the level of experience of those wanting to attend, as well as evaluating exactly the aspirations, needs and goals of anyone that is interested.

“Courses will likely be structured for two groups of actors: aspiring and beginners; and experienced and professional. The courses are only for people wanting to develop their skills and tools in film & screen acting.

“We have produced a short video to introduce Darren who talks about the launch event and outlines the courses. Tickets and the video can be found on the Chichester FilmMakers website at www.ChiFilm.studio/Acting

“The film & screen courses build on a variety of regular activities and events that have become a part of Chichester’s calendar since early 2025, including our quarterly events which help to provide film production opportunities and skills development to aspiring and professional actors and film makers across West Sussex, Hampshire, Dorset and Surrey, with filming regularly taking place in and around Chichester and the local area.

“(The courses) build on Darren’s 25 years in the film industry during which he has coached a plethora of acting talent from aspiring actors to experienced and professional film actors, at a number of leading acting and film schools including the University of Chichester, East 15 Drama School, New York and Los Angeles.

“Chichester FilmMakers CIC is a non-profit organisation, established in late 2023 with the support a number of local charities and film industry organisations, to provide a platform for local aspiring and early career actors and film makers with the opportunity to gain and develop hands-on skills, participate in film productions being made in and around Chichester and West Sussex, and gain access to career opportunities within the film industry.”

Their multi-award winning debut film The Barn was made in 2024, created and produced with more than 70 local aspiring and professional cast and crew, with the help and support of a number of local organisations including: the Weald & Downland Museum, Saint Andrew’s Church (Arundel), Coulson Media, Old Chapel Studios, Graded Films, GladRags Costumes (Brighton), Chichester Cinema (NewPark), Chichester City Council, Paramount Pictures UK, and also the help and support of Oscar and BAFTA winning actress and director Kate Winslet. Full details are available at www.ChiFilm.studio/TheBarn.

Jonathan added: “Following the success of our sell-out winter event in Chichester at the end of January, which was attended by 135 actors and film-makers including a significant number from across West Sussex, we are rapidly approaching our next event on April 26 at the New Park Centre, featuring guest speaker Rob Sprackling, creator of blockbuster film, Gnomeo & Juliet.”
