Shoreham home shows it cares by helping charities and enriching residents’ lives

Superheroes came to the rescue at a Shoreham care home, putting a smile on the residents’ faces. Staff at Kingsland House decided to raise money for BBC Children in Need by dressing up and residents said they loved seeing them in their costumes. Karen Williams, general manager, said: “This has been a huge amount of fun for all involved.”

The team at the Kingsland Close home likes to raise money for good causes when it can. Staff recently supported Breast Cancer Now with a Wear it Pink Day and more than £500 was raised for Alzheimer’s Society with a Memory Walk from Brighton Pier to Goring Gap in Worthing in September. The home also has a busy activities programme, including gardening club, arts and craft, pen pal letters and themed days for fun and laughter, to create conversation and bring back happy memories. In a recent baking masterclass, the Christmas cake making was such a success, it will be entered into a competition. Karen said: “Ensuring residents feel engaged and connected within our home is more important than ever. We provide a wide range of activities as part of our life enrichment programme.”
