Horsham District village is revealed as online stock market trading capital

Despite having a population of fewer than 1,400 people, on average residents in Rusper spent more time trading than anyone else in England, according to new data from TradingView.

Rusper’s traders racked up an average of more than 19 hours each on the site, the data from the charting platform shows.

James Maddison, chief marketing officer at the firm, said: “There may well be some city traders and hedge fund managers living in Rusper, as it’s stockbroker belt country and in the orbit of London, but let’s be clear, it’s unlikely that Rusperians are hedge fund managers or city traders.

“Our site is used by these sorts of professionals, but 99 per cent of our users aren’t institutional, they’re self-starting retail traders and investors.”

The village has been most interested in Netflix, Bitcoin and Apple this year, James added.

He said: “Not exactly the calling card of the old guard institutional types.

“It’s also worth pointing out that these three assets have averaged a 180 per cent increase in value since the start of the year – so I’d say Rusperians are looking in the right places and thoroughly deserving of the title as Britain’s most dedicated traders.”

UK growth director David Belle added: “It’s pretty clear that the residents of Rusper have done pretty well considering that throughout 2020 large cap tech has been on an absolute tear as part of the NASDAQ.

“Bitcoin reached its lows down in March of this year and is now trading at just sub £20,000.

“Clearly they must be pretty good at picking assets.”
