Littlehampton woman to achieve childhood dream of running a cake shop

A cake-maker from Littlehampton is set to open her own shop.

Lauren Whitburn, 31, has taken on a unit in Evans Garden, next to Arcade Lounge, to open Lauren’s Cakes.

She started the business in 2020, around Covid times, when lots of people were looking for cakes and sweet treats.

She initially worked from home, supplying local businesses such as Felpham Post Office and selling from markets.

In August 2025, Carol from the sausage roll kitchen welcomed Lauren into her commercial kitchen in Littlehampton, where she rented the space to give her a work/home-life balance.

Now she will be baking and serving her cakes, bakes, blondies and brownies from her new shop, which she hopes to open at the beginning of or mid-December.

Lauren’s partner Richard, or Mr Lauren’s Cakes as he is known, is helping her with the shop refit.

Lauren said: “As a young girl baking with her nan, you imagine a cute little pink cake shop one day. And it’s finally time.

“I’ve not rushed, I’ve taken my time, and now is the perfect time for me.

“So much hard work goes into running your own business, so I’d love to see as many people as possible at the opening day. There will be goodie bags and sweet treat samples.”
