Cornfield Road was closed to traffic last Sunday (March 28) as East Sussex Highways contractors carried out the work.

East Sussex County Council said contractors had been waiting for the temperature to rise so lines could be painted on parts of the granite road surface.

Parking wardens have been unable to enforce restrictions in parts of the road as the lines had not been painted.

That led to food delivery drivers parking in disabled bays and motorists parking dangerously on street corners.

Pay to park machines in the road remain covered up until Wednesday..

A spokesperson at East Sussex County Council said, “Lines have now been painted in Cornfield Road and our enforcement officers will be patrolling and enforcing in the area. The covers are due to be removed from the parking machines tomorrow. We would remind motorists to park responsibly and safely, and always within the restrictions in place.”
