Worthing café reopens with a new owner – who has plans to make it a community hub

After working in coffee shops for six years, the new owner of a Worthing café decided it was time to try running her own business.

Wing Cheung has taken over Floral Café in Montague Street, which relaunched under the name GH Floral Café when it reopened on October 10.

The previous owners closed the café in September. After seeing it advertised online, Wing from Brighton took it on and spent three weeks renovating it.

Wing said: "After six years, I thought it was time for me to have my own business and not be working for someone anymore.

"It's been quite exciting, and it's been great to meet different kinds of people who come into the café."

Wing, who moved to the UK from Hong Kong six years ago, worked as an assistant manager in coffee shops in Eastbourne, Burgess Hill and Brighton before taking on GH Floral Café.

She said the business appealed to her because the two staff members were happy to stay on, and she liked the vibe in Worthing.

Wing said the café has many regular customers, and she loves getting to know them. It includes a group of older people who like to come in for tea and play board games.

She said: "We're not quite in the centre of town; we're just a tiny bit outside, so we need something unique.

"We're not Costa, but we can offer something different. Something with a real community feel.

"Unlike big chains, we can tweak the menu and really cater to what each customer wants and needs."

GH Floral Café serves breakfasts, brunches, toasties, sandwiches, light bites and more, all cooked by Wing and her husband.

They also have savoury pastries and Scotch eggs, all cooked in house, plus cakes and sweet treats.

They also have a large vegan and gluten free selection.

"I didn't know much about Worthing before starting here, but I love it. I'm thinking of moving here.

"It's really hard work to run a small business, but we're hoping customers will realise we're open again and will come in to try us out."

GH Floral Cafe is open from Monday to Saturday, from 8am to 6pm, although hours may change slightly in the winter.
