Coronavirus: The Beacon closes from today (Tuesday)

The Beacon in Eastbourne town centre has announced it will close from today (Tuesday) with access only to essential stores and services.

In a statement just released by the shopping centre, bosses said that following the continued development of the COVID-19 outbreak and in line with government restriction, The Beacon will be shut until further notice.

The essential stores and services include only the food hall of Marks & Spencer; Sainsbury’s; only the pharmacy in Boots; Grapetree; Holland & Barrett; Specsavers; Wilko and Metrobank.

Limited floors within the centre’s main car park will remain open to allow customers to access The Beacon with shopping trollies. The Junction Road car park will close tonight.

A spokesperson at The Beacon said, “The health of our retailers, centre teams and visitors is paramount, and we are working hard to ensure people are being supported wherever possible. We are working closely with our cleaning service provider to ensure best practice is followed and have implemented an enhanced cleaning regime throughout the centre. We encourage our visitors to follow the government’s advice to frequently wash their hands.

“We thank people for their patience and understanding during this challenging time. We will keep our customers updated of developments via our various digital communication channels.”
