Customers queue outside to visit new Bexhill discount retailer shop

The Works welcomed shoppers to its new store at 42/42A Devonshire Road on Thursday (October 22).

The shop stocks books, arts and crafts, toys, games and stationery. Disney, K-POP Demon Hunters, and Bluey items.

Jane Stevens, deputy manager, said: “We're looking forward to getting as many people in as possible, creating a lovely warm environment here. When we were opening up and doing all the work, getting everything on the shelves, we had people outside inquiring and we've had a real buzz around the shop.

“This morning (Thursday, October 22) we even had a queue outside, so really, really good support. It's been really positive, lots of feedback from neighbours.

“I live in the area, so I've had a lot of messages from people excited to see us. It's so important to support local businesses because it's where you live; these are people doing just what you are trying to do and create a living for yourself in your hometown.

“It's really good to get you off of the internet into the shops and seeing what we've got, holding things dry and things looking, and interacting with other people from your community.”

Store manager Nora Wykes said: “I'm delighted to finally and officially open The Works right here in Bexhill. We worked really hard, and it could not have happened without my hard-working team, very supportive family members and, of course, the very welcoming Bexhill community.

“It's more important than ever before to support local businesses, especially now that we are moving away from online platforms.”

The Works was founded in 1981.

The new Bexhill town centre store has created eight jobs.

The shop will be open 9am - 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am - 4pm on Sundays.
