Shoppers at Dunelm in Rustington have donated 1,250 Christmas gifts for families in need in the village and the surrounding area.

The store's annual Delivering Joy campaign saw customers at the home furnishing retailer fulfilling wishes written on gift tags on the Christmas tree in store by buying treats over the festive period.

Some of the families the charity supports were invited into the store on Monday for a Christmas treat and organiser Grace Meachim surprised them with an extra special gift.

Littlehampton Community Fridge volunteers went along on Monday, too, to help deliver the gifts to Family Support Work, a Sussex children's charity that runs activities in Rustington.

Grace said the campaign had been bigger than ever before, having 'gone viral' this year, with well over 400 tags collected from the store and a kind donation of £500 worth of toys to the charity.

She added: "We are so happy to help put a smile on people’s faces. It went better than expected. I’m still in amazement by all the support and generosity the charity got.

"I came home and cried, it’s really hit home this year just how much these families truly appreciate what we’ve done. We would like to thank each and every one of you who helped us to deliver joy this Christmas. We collected 1,250 gifts in total, which were delivered to our chosen charity, Family Support Work."
