The deadline has passed for bids to be placed by anyone wanting to buy a former Eastbourne school.

Moira House in Upper Carlisle Road closed earlier this year amid a cash crisis and despite an eleventh hour bid to save it, the buildings were placed on the market with the Knight Frank agency.

The price for the former school, founded by Charles Ingham in Surrey in 1875 as Moira House School and moved to its current location in 1887, was on application to the estate agency.

According to the Knight Frank website, the school comprises period buildings in keeping with local architecture and agents describe it as a rare and substantial opportunity and available freehold with vacant possession.

A spokesperson said, “There is potential for a range of alternative uses and development, subject to all necessary consents.

“The main school site is approximately five acres comprising of approximately 101,721 square foot of buildings.”
