Hastings town centre hotel extension plans put forward

Proposals to build an extension to a Hastings town centre hotel have been put forward.

A scheme for the erection of lower ground-floor and ground-floor rear extensions at the Lansdowne Hotel in Robertson Terrace, together with proposed window changes, has been submitted to Hastings Borough Council.

The application by Thought Wise Events & Hospitality Ltd also includes the retrospective demolition of the front entrance porch and associated works.

A design and access statement by A&M Architectural Partnership LLP, on behalf of the applicant, said: “This planning application seeks approval for proposals to extend the property at the rear, the demolition of the existing inappropriate front porch and replacement of timber fence panels with cast stone balustrade.

“While the proposed works are primarily at the rear of the property the front elevation improvements will be a significant improvement to the hotel's sea-facing appearance, restoring its formal character to the benefit of the conservation area and nearby listed buildings.

“The proposed rear extensions match the character and appearance of those previously approved and will enhance Robertson Passage’s appearance, aligning with its eclectic, functional character.

“The proposal results in no harm to the Lansdowne Hotel, the conservation area or nearby listed buildings.”

Council planners granted permission to the same developers in January this year regarding a separate application.

The plans submitted involved the erection of a six-storey rear extension to accommodate a lift, formation of new windows on the north-east side elevation, as well as alterations to windows to the rear elevations with replacement of existing render.

The Lansdowne Hotel was built in the mid-19th century.

Members of the public may view the full details of the application to Hastings Borough Council and submit comments via the council's planning portal at www.hastings.gov.uk/planning by searching under the reference number HS/FA/26/00422 or by visiting the council offices during normal opening hours.
