The Post Office was opened at Sabari Store in South Road by MP Nustrat Ghani and Mayor and Councillor Paul Holbrook today (November 18). The branch will be open 60 hours a week for services including bill payments, foreign currency, returns, and cash withdrawals as well as regular postal tasks.

Six months ago, husband and wife Bala Sitisabesan and Suganya Bala opened a convenience shop called Sabari Store. Since then they successfully applied to open a brand-new Post Office. Hailsham Post Office is run by Hailsham Town Council but there was a need for a Post Office in North Hailsham. The current opening hours are: Monday to Saturday 7am – 6pm and Sunday: 8am – 1pm.

Nusrat Ghani MP said: “Post Office services are key in rural constituencies such as Wealden. Many people rely on their local branch in order to access essential services and I continue working with communities across Wealden to keep our Post Office branches open and thriving. I am pleased that this conveniently located brand-new Post Office is now open and available to Hailsham residents, and I wish Suganya and Bala good luck with their new venture.”

Suganya Bala said: “My customers are delighted that we now have a Post Office and we’ve had nothing but positive comments. We are also gaining lots of new customers who had not been in before we opened the Post Office. There’s free parking, so it’s easy to pop in. We are expecting more support from the community as they realise just how many Post Office services we offer. There are no banking facility nearby, so it’s easy for people to come her to do their banking on behalf of the high street banks. We’ve also been busy doing bill payments, sending parcels and home shopping returns. We’re also increasing out retail range after listening to feedback from customers over the past six months.”

Emily Clive, Post Office network provision lead, said: “We know how important our services are to customers, and we are confident that this brand-new Post Office alongside the other branch at Hailsham will ensure that people in this area have easy access to our services.”
