A Newhaven-based sculptor has been announced as the winner of the 2020 LEAP Leadership Programme.

Paul Cox the founder of Paul Cox Sculpture, will be presented with a £1,000 cash prize after he impressed judges with his vision and his ability to demonstrate the positive impact of the programme’s learning on his business.

He said: “Being involved in the LEAP programme has been instrumental in navigating my business in turbulent times.

“I have been given the leadership skills to steer my business through unpredictable times during COVID and adapt quickly.

“Without the LEAP programme, my business wouldn’t be in the shape it is today.

“We have transformed processes within the business, which has allowed us to be more efficient and increase our creativity now we have the time to do it.

“It’s been great working with local mentors who have an understanding of my business to allow it to flourish.”

The LEAP Entrepreneurial Leadership Programme is a free programme available in the Lewes District, funded by the ERDF and Lewes District Council under Chichester University’s Business Hothouse initiative.

It is designed to help business owners and team leaders develop their leadership skills and implement new strategies to improve their business.

Corinne Day, Newhaven Enterprise Zone Programme Director, said: “We’re delighted to see Paul Cox Sculpture recognised as part of the LEAP programme.

“It’s wonderful to see Newhaven being acknowledged as a creative hub, especially with businesses like Paul’s playing a vital role in this and championing our town.”
